MSMS Alumni Weekend 2022

MSMS Alumni Weekend 2022 will be a milestone celebration for the Classes of 1992, 1997, 2002, 2007, 2012, and 2017! Our event will be in-person and we’re excited to see everyone! The tentative schedule is located below.

Early registration prices will end on March 18th! Late registration will be available until April 8th.

Friday, April 8

Kickoff Events

12:00-3:00 PM CDT | Registration and Campus Tours | Hooper at 1100 College St

Check-in at Hooper to register for MSMS Alumni Weekend. MSMS Emissaries will be available to give campus tours.

3:00-5:00 PM CDT | Screening of “Walter Anderson: The Extraordinary Life and Art of the Islander | First Methodist Church at 602 Main St

Anthony Thaxton, Class of 1991, will host a screening of his documentary on Mississippi artist Walter Anderson, followed by a moderated discussion. Current MSMS students will join us for this special event.

5:00-7:00 PM CDT | Welcome Reception at Columbus Arts Council at 501 Main Street

Join us at the Columbus Arts Council to view the world premiere of the photography exhibition “O. N. Pruitt’s Possum Town,” featuring historical photographs of the Columbus area from the 1920s to 1950s. Curator Berkley Hudson will give remarks and sign copies of the book accompanying the exhibition, and copies of Anthony Thaxton’s book on Walter Anderson will also be available for signing. Heavy hors d’oeuvres and beverages will be served.

7:00-10:00 PM CDT | Tales from the Crypt | Friendship Cemetery at 1300 4th St South

Enjoy the performances of current MSMS students at the 32nd edition of Tales from the Crypt. This reenactment of the lives of Columbus citizens brings history to life while celebrating the talents of MSMS students. A group transportation option will be available. Last entry at 9:00 PM. Admission tickets are provided with event registration.

Saturday, April 9

Morning Activities

9:00-10:00 AM CDT | Morning Meet and Greet | Shackelford Hall at 1100 College St

Interested in getting involved at MSMS? Take this opportunity to meet representatives from the MSMS Alumni Association, the Black Alumni Advisory Committee, and Parents Lending United Support. Coffee and light breakfast will be provided, and check-in will be available for late arrivals.

10:00-11:00 AM CDT | State of MSMS | Shackelford Hall at 1100 College St

Mr. Rick Smith, Acting MSMS Executive Director, will update attendees on the state of all things MSMS.

11:00-11:30 PM CDT | MSMS Foundation Open Meeting | Shackelford Hall at 1100 College St

Ms. Cynthia Henderson, President of the MSMS Foundation Board, will update attendees on the MSMS Foundation.

11:30-12:00 PM CDT | Class Pictures | Hooper Steps

Class pictures will be taken on the steps of Hooper

12:00-3:00 PM CDT | Break | Lunch at Catfish in the Alley | grounds of the Tennessee Williams Columbus Welcome Center at 300 Main St

Join us at Columbus’ annual Catfish in the Alley celebration for family-friendly lunch and entertainment. Lunch vouchers will be provided.

3:00-5:00 PM CDT | Alumni and Student Panels | Hooper at 1100 College Street

Join us at Munson and Brothers for drinks, live music, and more fun at our local family-friendly gathering place. Drink tickets will be provided.

Individual classes are encouraged to make plans for group dinners.
